I was approached today by a guy in a C class in a who tried to sell me what he described as "genuine Mercedes watches" Supposedly these were meant to be handed out free with every new E class coupe, but dealerships had "forgotten" The watches were not even as good as Bangkok Rolex moodys, and were made by Omega, yeah right. Global trade in counterfeit Mercedes-Benz products continues to grow, especially online. In 2022, there was another significant increase in counterfeiting activities on social media and online marketplaces. I am wondering if anybody knows who are the original manufacturer for the watches that are sold under the Mercedes-Benz brand name. Most of them have nice Swiss movements such as Sellita 500 or ETA 7750, and as per my knowledge Mercedes . Tag Heuer made the Mercedes-Benz SLR series - not the SLS. There's the first iteration, a rectangular one only made for SLR owners; then came the Calibre 17, and finally the Calibre S. Anything you see branded SLS is definitely a fake. In the Klaus Kobec type scam the watches are genuinely advertised (and occasionally sold) at the full RRP, although the salesmen is still deceiving when claiming they are returning from a trade.
Cheap labour and minimal overheads may make fake watches a lot cheaper than Swiss originals, but the most accurate fakes are still far from cheap, costing many hundreds and sometimes even thousands of dollars.
